Danu

DanuDanu, Goddess of the Air and Stars – she is depicted here as tall as the heavens and her star children play about her. Mythically she is said to be the mother of the Tuatha Dé Danann, the Irish race who preceded humans and on her cloak can be seen the Paps of Anu – hills in Ireland associated with Danu/Anu. At her feet, between Neolithic standing stones is St Anne’s Well, in Whitstone, Cornwall. This well and its carved face are thought to represent a continuation of pre-Christian Anu worship. Acrylic on canvas (32in x 16in). Copyright Nic Phillips 2015
