Painted following my visit to Montserrat in November 2018. This Black Madonna, Our Lady of Montserrat, is patron saint of Catalonia and sits in a monastery high up in the clouds. Rather than sharp serrated rocks, the mountain reminded me of the smooth pads of fingers, so I drew the mountain as a great hand of the earth mother, cradling her image.
