‘Shiva’
This painting depicts Lord Shiva deep in meditation in a cave on his sacred Mount Kailash. The cave wall is actually based on an aerial view of the Himalayan mountain range, and the position of Mt. Kailash is where the Shiva lingham stone sits at the crown (Sahasrara) of Shiva’s head. A miniature of the mountain can also be seen in the bindi on his brow, with the two lakes that are related goddesses. The lapis lazuli set in the wall is one of the 4 types of precious stones that each represent a face of the mountain.
