Gran Bwa is the Vodou Lwa of the forest, usually depicted as a big tree. I wanted to draw comparison with the European ‘Green Man’ hence the vines coming from his mouth. The face on the leaves is from Gran Bwa’s veve (the flag symbol used to signify him in ceremony). Acrylic on canvas (9in x 12in). Copyright Nic Phillips 2015.
