Archapostle of the Irish, who reportedly drove every snake from Ireland. The origins of the figure venerated today possibly lie in a conflation of as many as five different ‘Patrick’s, including the Welsh Patrick Magonius and the Pope’s missionary Palladius. Legend tells that one of these Patricks if not THE Great Patrick lies at Glastonbury Abbey after he retired there from Ireland to spend his final years as its abbot. Acrylic and gold leaf on wood (11.5in x 9.5in)
