Lady of Avalon

Lady of AvalonAnother Goddess icon on wood, this is the mystical ‘Lady of Avalon’, Goddess of Glastonbury and personified in the figure of the Lady of the Lake. She may also be found in the Nine Morgans, Brigid, and all female divinities that inhabit the sacred landscape and the turning of the seasons. The painting is an allusion to ‘traditional icons’, with the halo of leaf metal becoming the silver moon here. Traditional Virgin Mother icons often feature a ‘miniature adult’ as their child, here the Lady’s daughter swims within her and is another aspect of her. Copyight Nic Phillips 2014. Acrylic and leaf metal on wood (12in x 10 in).
